Beating yourself up over goals that you never seem to meet? It may be time for a reality check.

Resolutions are often easy to make, but very difficult to follow through, be it losing weight, exercising regularly, walking away from that toxic relationship or quitting smoking. But what you shouldn’t be doing is give yourself a hard time for not achieving your goals. And guess what? You’re not alone—according to Marist Poll, an online poll bureau—35% of respondents in the United States who make resolutions don’t follow through with them. One way to get to the bottom of your resolution run-around: Sit down and pinpoint why you can’t seem to put your desires into action.
