Shape your life workshop : Women's health
Oct 2007

Striving to give participants a new lease on healthy living, the Shape Women’s Health Workshop presented food for both the body and mind.

In an ongoing mission to spread the word about good health, the Shape Women’s Health Workshop was held on October 20, 2007, at Fitness First, The Curve. The event saw both new and familiar faces arriving as early as 8.30 a.m. for registration.

Everyone had their Body Composition Analysis done fist: Participants removed their shoes, measured their BMIs, and, using the Tanita machine, calculated their body mass in terms of differentiating the percentage of fat, muscle and water in their bodies. This assessment helps determine the kind of workout that would best suit each person.

Our health-conscious participants were then welcomed by Shape editor Merina Hew. The fist finess session for the day was the Mind Workout, held at the Mind, Body & Soul Studio. Fitness First instructors Riyo and Cindy guided participants through a series of stretching and breathing exercises, in a workout designed to educate participants about having a holistic view of exercise that concerns not only physical wellbeing, but also mental and spiritual well-being.

Circuit Training was next. Participants were divided into groups to do exercises with different machines and equipment. With personalized attention from Fitness First trainers, they were guided in using different equipment targeting different body parts. Everyone also learned how to do targeted exercises, and how to compact an exercise routine to work on different parts of the body in a shorter amount of time.

Breakfast was held in the main studio, where participants enjoyed various Kellogg’s cereals with Anlene milk—an excellent combination for recharging and energizing. As everyone enjoyed their breakfast, Fitness First personal trainer Pritchard read out the individual test results of the Body Composition Analysis conducted earlier in the morning.
