Here’s an eye-opening fact: What you thought were puffy eyes may actually be eye bags, and vice versa. What’s the difference between the two and how do you treat them? A good place to start would be to understand their underlying causes.
THE CAUSES
“Puffy eyes are swelling of the tissue around the eyes due to fluid retention which can be caused by a medical ailment such as heart or kidney failure, hormonal disorder, an allergy, or unhealthy lifestyle,” explains Dr. Karen Po, a consultant aesthetic physician at Beverly Wilshire Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur. “Some people are also born with a bulky muscle tissue just under the lower lid, which at a glance, is often mistaken for puffy eyes. Eye bags, on the other hand, “is simply a sign of ageing,” says Dr. Po.
