If The Shoe Fits…

……it’s high time you start running in it.

READY? STEADY? GO!… get your running shoes and be sure to join us at the fourth annual Shape Night Run, to be held on the last Saturday of this month at the front of Kompleks Perbadanan Putrajaya, Precinct 3, from 6.30pm onwards.

And if, like me, you’re in dire need of a new pair of running shoes, then you need go no further than page 36 for a hand-picked array of the newest running shoes on the market. Although, for the longest time, I’ve known in theory that proper or activity-specific shoes are de rigeur. It wasn’t until my first Shape Night Run two years ago that I fully appreciated, firsthand (or should I say “first-foot”?) the sense of this.

I had used cross-trainers that were great for the body-weight and curl-bar circuit training that I generally do, but after the third kilometer, my feet and heals started aching. My ankles felt as if they were on fire, and my legs started to feel like led.

I had then made a mental note to get myself a “proper” pair of “runners”, and that’s why I really enjoyed our spread of running shoes in this month’s Focus section. I’m so tempted to get me the pair of Vibrams Bikila on page 39…

If this doesn’t inspire you, try flipping back a couple of pages to 32 through to 35 for the stories of four women who love running. As I am no runner—running has always seemed an activity that’s “too hard” for me—reading about these women and their reasons for running, not to mention how often they do so in a week, just awes me.

Yes, yes, you’re right, I have a mental block when it come to running. I can walk and hike for hours, but the 5km Fun Run is really all I can manage. As such, I look forward to running alongside you if you’ve already signed up for the Fun Run. For those of you awesome souls who’ll be in the 12.3km lineup, for sure, I’ll be there to cheer you on through the finish line!
